Introducing the VDL Portfolio
Excited (or terrified?) to announce my new premium offering: The Value Don’t Lie Portfolio. (Title is a work in progress.)
Here’s how it will work…
I’m going to take my real-life investment portfolio and publish it live for subscribers to see. I’ll also post every buy and sell real-time as they happen.
There will be some regular posts, discussion threads, etc. as well. All for a measly $150 a month. And yes, my wife gave me approval to do this!
Since 2013 when my investment strategy really hit stride, returns have been in the 20% range across my 2 primary accounts. Total contributions to these accounts were $101k and they now total $232k.
Here is a glimpse of one of them for good measure:
Why do this?
Aside from the fact it would be nice to get paid for what is now a hobby?
In all seriousness, I love looking at stocks and digging around for that no-brainer situation. Since leaving the buy-side at a medium-sized investment firm, my focus has been on owning and growing a handful of small businesses. My goal was (and is) to keep some balance between private and public investments. This should also force me to keep some attention on the public investment side of things.
Also, I don’t have a huge desire to start a hedge fund or investment firm. I prefer to manage my own money and share the knowledge (for a fee). Plus… I can tolerate an occasional bankruptcy in my portfolio, not everyone is so forgiving when handing over the reins to their money.
What else?
Most of my holdings are very small companies (i.e. micro or nano cap land) but I do own some larger companies and have no problem doing so.
I’m not a believer in ultra-concentrated portfolios but I don’t own a ton of stocks either. Also not a believer in ultra-low turnover but I have no problem hanging onto a business for years.
There are other aspects to my strategy which I hope to share along the way.
Hope to have you on board as we kick off 2020! And to make things a bit more interesting… Throwing in a promo for a lifetime 20% discount through the end of the year…
Cheers,
Colin
