I think Zaslav is overrated. When he ran Discovery there were great expectations, which never happened. Then everyone became excited with the Warner Brothers combo. Investors got burned again.

Personally, I think both companies want to disassociate themselves from their news channels more than anything because they have tarnished their image, but they had to chuck in some other channels with the hopes that it will make the spin cos investable.

Comcast is more interesting because they are starting to give Disney a run for their money with Universal. Plus, their Wi-Fi is booming and make no mistake the broadband assets make a big difference between the two companies.

Warner has good content but can’t seem to monetize it, at least with Zaslav at the helm.

Disney is frittering away their content too. They haven’t made a good movie in years. They have probably had more success with Beatle documentaries than with anything else on their streaming platform as well.

Just my two cents.

If I could rank the 4 potential companies here in order of (my) interest:

1) CMCSA RemainCo — broadband + theme parks w growth

2) CMCSA SpinCo — likely a cleaner balance sheet w immediate M&A as a focus

3) Toss up on WBD — studio/HBO is a stellar asset but you have Zaslav leading it… networks will have a lot of debt and declining but Gunnar will prob be a good steward here.

I agree. Would be something if CMCSA tries to acquire DIS again after all is said and done and DIS continues to falter, although that hasn’t been evident in the stock price at the moment, but eventually the duds and at the box office will catch up with them along with the lack of creativity and less for more $$$ at the theme parks turns off the loyalists and markets too.

I could see DIS pursue a spin with CMCSA/WBD leading the way.

Some sort of RMT feels likely too. Don’t know which players but someone will try it.

DIS survived Nelson Peltz, but then appeared to go back to the old playbook, which at some point will make them vulnerable again.

There has always been talk of them spinning off ESPN, but that may have brought more in years ago. It too has lost popularity.

There is nobody in the wings to my knowledge to replace Iger. Even the Pixar side has gone stale along with Marvel.

They need more Doofenshmirtz! 😀

Also Universal’s Nintendo world is going to appeal to younger generations, who are more acquainted with Mario than Mickey.

What sort of short and long-term impact will that have on the Magic Kingdom?
